The primary function of an analog switch is to achieve the signal chain switching. It uses the MOSFET switching method to either connect or disconnect the signal path, thereby enabling functions such as signal switching, isolation, selection, conditioning, and transmission.

Ideally an analog switch should possess two key characteristics: when conducting, the resistance is zero, allowing the signal to transmit without any attenuation or distortion, ensuring that the output is identical to the input; when open, the resistance should approach infinity, ensuring complete isolation between the two signals and preventing any interference. Under such ideal conditions, the input and output terminals of the switch can be flexibly interchanged based on the actual drive requirements
However, in practice, analog switches are affected by numerous parasitic effects that impact system performance. In the conducting state, there is inevitably some resistance and capacitance between the input and output. The combined effect of these factors causes varying degrees of attenuation and distortion in the input signal. In the off state, there is also a certain residual resistance and capacitance between the input and output, which results in a weak coupling between the output and input, impossible to achieve complete isolation.
